Emu Oil FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Emu Oil

Will emu oil clog my pores?

Emu oil is rated as low-comedogenic, meaning it is unlikely to clog pores for most people. Its small molecular structure allows it to absorb readily into the skin rather than sitting heavily on the surface. That said, every skin type is different — if you're prone to breakouts, we recommend starting with a very small amount and doing a patch test first.

How do I do a patch test?

A patch test is a simple way to check whether emu oil suits your skin before using it more widely:

  1. Apply a small amount of emu oil to the inside of your wrist or elbow.
  2. Leave it on for 24 hours without washing the area.
  3. If you notice no redness, itching, or irritation after 24 hours, you can proceed with regular use.
  4. If any reaction occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

How do I use the dropper?

Squeeze the rubber bulb of the dropper, place the tip into the oil, then release the bulb to draw oil up. Dispense 2–4 drops onto your fingertips and apply as needed. One or two drops is usually enough for the face; use slightly more for larger areas like arms or legs. Replace the dropper cap firmly after each use.

How much should I apply, and how often?

Less is more with emu oil — a little goes a long way. For the face, start with 2–3 drops once daily (evening is a popular choice, as skin is in repair mode overnight). For dry areas of the body, apply as needed. Emu oil is readily absorbed, so if you're finding it feels greasy, try using slightly less next time.

Can I use it on my face?

Many people use emu oil as part of their daily skincare routine. Apply a small amount after cleansing and any water-based serums, allowing it to absorb before applying sunscreen or makeup. Always do a patch test first if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin.

How should I store emu oil?

Store your emu oil in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat — a bathroom cabinet, bedside drawer works well. If you are not using it regularly, store it in the fridge, tightly closed. Avoid leaving it near windows or in a hot car. Keeping the cap tightly closed after each use will also help preserve its quality.

What is the shelf life of emu oil?

Unopened, our emu oil has a shelf life of approximately 2 years from the date of manufacture. Once opened, we recommend using it within 12 months for best results. If the oil develops an off or rancid smell, it's time to replace it. So, buy the volume you know you will finish on time.

Is emu oil suitable for all skin types?

Emu oil is generally well-tolerated across a range of skin types. However, if you have a known allergy to emu or poultry products, or have very reactive skin, consult your healthcare professional before use. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any skin condition or disease.

Can I use emu oil with other skincare products?

Yes. Because emu oil is an oil, it's best applied after water-based products (like toners or serums) so it doesn't prevent them from absorbing. Avoid mixing directly with products containing strong active ingredients unless you have checked compatibility.
